Advanced Annotation and AI Training for Enhanced Emotion and Intent Recognition in Human Communication

Project Overview

Indika AI has evolved from a data labelling specialist to a leader in end-to-end AI solutions, showcasing our capabilities through a comprehensive project focused on emotion and intent tagging of utterances. This initiative aimed to enhance the understanding of human emotions and intents by leveraging our advanced data annotation and AI model training expertise. The project involved tagging utterances with emotional and intent categories based on detailed audio analysis, marking a significant step in our commitment to delivering high-quality, full-cycle AI solutions.

Project Guidelines

In managing this project, Indika AI employed a structured approach to ensure accurate emotion and intent tagging. The process began with the annotation of utterances based on the UTTERANCE AUDIO file, with the CONTEXT AUDIO file used only to provide additional context where necessary. Annotators classified each utterance into one of three Major Emotion categories—Positive, Negative, or Neutral—and identified relevant sub-emotions with indicated intensity.

The project emphasized the importance of the speaker’s tone and language in distinguishing between Positive and Negative emotions. In cases with multiple speakers, only one speaker’s emotion was tagged, while others were marked as incorrect unless the utterance was a simple acknowledgment. Utterances with unclear audio or bot voices were categorized as incorrect speaker classifications, and the CONTEXT AUDIO was utilized to infer emotions when needed. Utterances in foreign languages that could not be understood were also labeled as incorrect. This approach ensured that the tagging process was consistent, reliable, and aligned with the project’s objectives.

Emotions and Sub-Emotions

The tagging system categorized emotions into three major groups, each with specific sub-emotions. For Positive emotions, categories included Trust, Joy, Anticipation, Amusement, Approval, Excitement, Gratitude, Pride, and Relief. Each sub-emotion was characterized by specific indicators, such as happiness or eagerness. Negative emotions were divided into Anger, Disgust, Sadness, Fear, Disappointment, and Embarrassment, each reflecting different aspects of negative emotional states. Neutral emotions included Surprise, Confusion, Curiosity, and Realization, focusing on non-negative, non-positive reactions.

Use Cases for Emotion Tagging

The emotion and intent tagging methodology developed through this project has broad applications in AI. In sentiment analysis for customer support, the ability to classify interactions based on emotional tone enhances understanding of customer satisfaction and frustration. For voice assistant training, accurate tagging of emotional states and intents enables more responsive and empathetic interactions.

In healthcare communication analysis, tagging emotions such as empathy and concern improves the evaluation of doctor-patient conversations. Social media sentiment analysis benefits from our approach by categorizing posts and comments, while call center interaction analysis leverages emotion tagging to ensure quality and effectiveness in customer service.
